Scanned Originals Become Dirty (Manual Feeder Cleaning)

If originals that have been fed through the feeder have streaks or appear dirty, clean the feeder's scanning area.
Clean the feeder's scanning area with a cloth which is wrung after being dampened in water, and then wipe them clean with a soft, dry cloth.
The location of the Duplex Color Image Reader Unit-K1 is indicated in the following illustration.
IMPORTANT
If the document feed scanning area is dirty, documents may not be scanned clearly, and the size of the document may not be detected correctly.
NOTE
This procedure is necessary only if the Duplex Color Image Reader Unit-K1 is attached.

1.
Clean the original scanning area (thin glass strip).
1. Open the feeder.
2. Clean the original scanning area.
NOTE
Use the glass cleaning cloth provided as a machine accessory of the Duplex Color Image Reader Unit-K1 when simple cleaning.
When glass cleaning cloth becomes dirty, wash and rinse, and then spread it out to dry.

Open the covers.
1. Pull the lever above the feeder, and open the document scan cover.
2. Open the inside cover.
IMPORTANT
Open the document scan cover carefully, as not to scratch the platen glass.
3.
Clean the feed scanning area (thin glass strip).
NOTE
Use the glass cleaning cloth provided as a machine accessory of the Duplex Color Image Reader Unit-K1 when simple cleaning.
When glass cleaning cloth becomes dirty, wash and rinse, and then spread it out to dry.
4.
Close the covers and the feeder.
1. Close the inside cover.
2. Close the document scan cover.
3. Close the feeder.
CAUTION
When closing the covers and the feeder, be careful not to get your fingers caught, as this may result in personal injury.
Be aware that the light emitted from the platen glass may be very bright when closing the feeder.
