Permissions
"Permissions" means giving rights to folders and file operations to users who are registered in the computer. There are the following two types of permissions.
Network Permissions
They restrict users from accessing shared folders via the network.
Local Permissions
They restrict access to folders by users who are logged into the computer.
"Local permissions" can only be set when the drive where the folder is located is formatted with NTFS.
Sharing Files with Unrestricted Access
For Windows XP, set shared folders with unrestricted access using Simple File Sharing.
NOTE
For Windows XP Professional
If Simple File Sharing is disabled, enable it using the following procedure.
1.
From the [Start] menu, select [Control Panel] - [Folder Options].
2.
Select the [Display] tab, and display the [Display] page.
3.
Select the check box for [Use simple file sharing (Recommended)] under [Advanced Settings].
4.
Click [OK], and close the [Folder Options] screen.
1
Create a shared folder.
We recommend creating the shared folder in a location that would be easy to find later, such as directly under the C drive.
Example: C:\share
Use single-byte alphanumeric characters for the folder name.
The folder name created here is needed by "How to Save to a File Server (A Shared File Server)." We recommend that you make a note of it so that you do not forget.
2
Right-click the folder you created, and select [Sharing and Security].
3
Perform the following procedure.

Display the [Sharing] page.
(2)
