Sending Problems
Cancel the sending of faxes.
If you want to cancel sending while documents are being scanned or while sending a Direct Send fax, press <Cancel> or
, and press <Yes>.
If you want to cancel sending after the documents are scanned, press
<Send>
<Job Status>, and select <Fax> from the drop-down list. Select a document that you want to cancel sending for, then press <Cancel>
<Yes>. In some situations, a document may be sent even after <Cancel> is pressed.
A fax cannot be sent.
Check that the destination you specified is correct, or that the destination registered in the Address Book or one-touch button is correct.
Has trouble occurred on the recipient's machine? Make sure that the recipient's machine is turned ON, has enough paper, and has sufficient available memory.
Is the telephone line type set correctly? Check that the telephone line type was set correctly when the line was added.
Set <Check Dial Tone Before Sending> to <Off> if the telephone line is connected to a PBX (Private Branch Exchange) or terminal adapter.

When sending a fax overseas, insert pauses after the international access number and at the end of the fax number. When you specify the destination from the Address Book, change the settings of <Long Distance> in <Set Details>.
Has an error occurred? Check the sending status or log.
The memory is full.
Are too many documents stored in memory? Check the sending/receiving status, and delete unnecessary documents to make more memory available.
The document does not print clearly at the recipient's machine.
If the document was scanned on the paten glass and sent, the platen glass may be dirty. Use the platen glass to make a copy. If streaks appear, clean the platen glass.
The density of the documents sent to a recipient is too light.
Adjust the density setting so that it is darker, and send the document again.
If the document type is set to <Photo>, change it to <Text> and send the document again.
The machine will not transmit using a subaddress.
Check that the recipient's machine is compatible with the subaddress function.
Check that the specified subaddress and password are correct.
Did an error occur on the recipient's machine? Make sure that the recipient's machine is turned ON and has enough paper.
Check that the subaddress and password settings registered in the Address Book for the destination are correct.
The recipient's machine is slow to switch over to the receiving mode, and errors always occur.
If you are sending to a machine that is slow in switching over to fax receiving, insert a pause after the destination's fax number.
Receiving Problems
Cannot receive faxes.
Does the machine have sufficient memory? Delete unnecessary documents and documents with errors from memory to increase the amount of available memory.
If <RX Password> is set in <Fax Settings>, documents can be received only from senders that use the correct password.

Cannot forward documents to the Confidential Fax Inbox.
Are the forwarding conditions for <Forwarding Settings> set correctly? Specify the Confidential Fax Inbox for <Forwarding Destination>.

Is <Validate/Invalidate> in <Forwarding Settings> set to <Off>? Forwarding Settings must be set to <On> to be effective.

Does the machine have sufficient memory? Delete unnecessary documents and documents with errors from memory to increase the amount of available memory.
Cannot receive documents to memory.

Other Faxing Problems
The results of received faxes are not satisfactory.
If the machine performs properly when you make a copy, the sender's machine may have a problem. It is recommended that you ask the sender to clean their machine.
Fax transmissions are slow.
Are documents being sent at a high resolution? Reducing the resolution increases the sending speed.
Is <ECM TX> or <ECM RX> set to <On>? Setting ECM to <Off> may increase the sending/receiving speed.
Was the document type set to <Text/Photo> when it was sent? If the document does not contain any photos, select <Text> from <Original Type>.
Did an error occur because the sending/receiving speed was too fast? Check <TX Start Speed> or <RX Start Speed>, and configure the speed setting again. If you are using an optical fiber line or IP telephone line, a communication error may have occurred due to the line quality. For details, contact your telecommunications service provider.

Cannot use fax information services.
Are you using pulse dial? If so, press <Tone> to set the machine for tone dialing, so that you can use fax information services.
Did you receive instructions from the sender to set the machine to receive? If so, press <Start RX>.
Calls are not connected, or an incorrect number is dialed.
Make sure that you hear the dial tone before entering the fax number. If you enter the fax number before hearing the dial tone, the call may not be connected, or an incorrect number may be dialed.
