Advanced Box/Network Settings

Return to Overview

There are two types of storage locations in the Advanced Box; Shared Space and Personal Space. To use these storage locations, it is necessary to specify their settings. The System Manager has to specify the various settings such as the user authentication settings, whether to allow users to use the Personal Space, and the Open to Public setting, according to your needs.

  • Advanced Box User Authentication Management Settings

The following settings are required to perform authentication management for the users that use the Advanced Box.

  • Register the user that performs authentication management in "User Access Control for Advanced Box" (authentication application). (See "User Access Control for Advanced Box" in "Security.")
  • Set [Authentication Management] to 'On'. (See "Setting the Advanced Box to be Open to the Public as a WebDAV/SMB Server.")

  • Allowing Users to Use the Personal Space

In addition to "Advanced Box User Authentication Management Settings," the following setting is required to allow users to use the Personal Space.

  • Set [Allow to Create Personal Space] to 'On'. (See "Allowing to Create Personal Space.")

  • Opening the Advanced Box Using SMB or WebDAV

The following settings are required to open the Advanced Box to the public using SMB or WebDAV. This enables you to open the Advanced Box of the machine to be used as network storage, and enables the Advanced Box to be used from computers.

Using SMB:

  • Set [Open to Public] to [By SMB]. (See "Setting the Advanced Box to be Open to the Public as a WebDAV/SMB Server.")
  • Set [Use SMB Server] to 'On'. (See "SMB and WINS Settings.")
  • If the Advanced Box is open to the public by setting the Advanced Box authentication management to 'On', set the authentication type by setting [Use SMB Authentication] to 'On'. (See "SMB and WINS Settings.")
  • For details on the SMB server settings, see "SMB and WINS Settings" in "Network."
  • To allow the public to write in the Advanced Box, set [Prohibit Writing from External] to 'Off'. (See "Prohibiting Writing from External Users.")

Remark
  • If the ColorPASS or the imagePASS is attached, you cannot open the Advanced Box to the public using SMB. To open the Advanced Box to the public, set WebDAV.
  • If the machine shuts down when a client computer is writing a file to the Advanced Box, an incomplete file is generated inside the Advanced Box. In this case, perform the operation again after restarting the machine.

Using WebDAV:

  • Set [Open to Public] to [By WebDAV]. (See "Setting the Advanced Box to be Open to the Public as a WebDAV/SMB Server.")
  • Set [Use WebDAV Server] to 'On'. (See "Settings Common to TCP/IPv4 and TCP/IPv6.")
  • If the Advanced Box is open to the public by setting the Advanced Box authentication management to 'On', set the authentication type (Basic) in [WebDAV Server Settings]. (See "Setting the Advanced Box to be Open to the Public as a WebDAV/SMB Server.")
  • To allow the public to write in the Advanced Box, set [Prohibit Writing from External] to 'Off'. (See "Prohibiting Writing from External Users.")

  • Using the Advanced Box of Another Machine

The following settings are required to use the Advanced Box (network storage) opened to the public using SMB or WebDAV on another machine with this machine.

Settings on this machine:

  • Register the Advanced Box of another machine that is opened to the public in [Network Place Settings]. (See "Setting/Managing the Advanced Box of External Reference (Network Place).")
  • Set the same communication protocol used to open the Advanced Box of another machine that is open to public in [Protocol for External Reference]. (See "Setting the Protocol for External Reference.")
  • If the ColorPASS or the imagePASS is attached to the machine for external reference, set WebDAV as the protocol.
The URLs to register are as follows:
If the SSL is invalid: http://IP address:18080/share
If the SSL is valid: https://IP address:18443/share

Settings on the other machine:

  • If the Advanced Box for external reference is open to public by setting the authentication management to 'On', register the users in "User Access Control for Advanced Box." (See "User Access Control for Advanced Box" in "Security.")

  • Operating system compatible as the client of the SMB or WebDAV server:

  • Windows 2000 Professional
  • Windows XP
  • Windows Vista
  • Windows 7

Remark
  • To connect to the Advanced Box that is open to public as the WebDAV server from a computer, depending on the operating system/software environment you are using, it is necessary to install the following update program.
  • For Windows XP or Windows Vista
Update Software Program for Web Folder: KB907306
  • For Office XP
Microsoft Office XP Service Pack 1 (SP-1)
  • For 2007 Office System
2007 Microsoft Office system Service Pack 1 (SP-1)

For more information, see Microsoft Web page.

  • Error Message That Appears When Storing Data on the Advanced Box of Another Machine on the Network

If an error occurs when you try to store data on the Advanced Box of another machine opened using SMB or WebDAV, an error message will appear on the touch panel display.

If the error message <Could not perform because an error occurred on the network.> appears on your screen, you may need to confirm the settings of the destination machine. The potential causes and remedies are described below.

Cause 1

The destination has [Prohibit Writing from External] in [Function Settings] (Settings/Registration) set to 'On'.

Remedy

Set [Prohibit Writing from External] in [Function Settings] (Settings/Registration) of the destination to 'Off'.

Cause 2

You tried to store data directly in the Shared Space (share) or Personal Space (users) of the destination.

Remedy

You cannot store data directly in the Shared Space (share) or Personal Space (users) of the destination. Store the file in a folder in [Space].

Cause 3

When you tried to store the data, the full pathname (file/folder names indicating the store location) was too long.

Remedy

Shorten the folder and file names so that the full pathname, including "/share" and "/users," does not exceed 256 characters in length, or change the store location.

Cause 4

You tried to store more than the capacity of the Advanced Box (100,000 files/ folders), or more than the capacity of the designated destination folder (1,000 files/folders).

Remedy

Perform the operation again after deleting unwanted files from the destination folder, or change the destination.

Cause 5

The destination memory capacity was exceeded as a result of your attempt to store data.

Remedy

Perform the operation again after deleting unwanted files from the destination, or change the destination.

Remark
  • To check whether the file was stored correctly, press (Status Monitor/Cancel) → [Store] → [Log]. If the result is displayed as "NG," press [Details] to check the error code. For more information on the causes and remedies for each error code, see "Problem Solving."
