Inserting Sheets

This mode enables you to set the machine to automatically add sheet insertions, chapter pages, or tab papers using a different type of paper from that used for the main document. In addition, you can decide whether the sheet insertions and tab paper are copied on as well. Chapter pages are always copied on.

Remark
  • For information on the modes which cannot be set in combination with this mode, see "Combination of Functions Chart."
  • If you select the Staple mode when the Staple Finisher-A1/Booklet Finisher-A1 is attached, you cannot staple more than 50 sheets of 11" × 17", LGL, or LTRR paper, or 100 sheets of LTR or EXEC paper, including sheet insertions. However, if both the Staple Cartridge-H1 and Staple-H1 are attached, the sheets cannot be stapled when the total number of sheets and cover sheets exceeds 50, regardless of the paper size.
  • If you select the Staple mode when the Staple Finisher-B1/Booklet Finisher-B1is attached, you cannot staple more than 30 sheets of 11" × 17", LGL, or LTRR paper, or 50 sheets of LTR or EXEC paper, including sheet insertions.
  • When printing on special types of paper, such as heavy paper or transparencies, be sure to correctly set the paper type, especially if you are using heavy paper. If the type of paper is not set correctly, it could adversely affect the quality of the image. Moreover, the fixing unit may become dirty, or the paper could jam, and a service repair may be needed.
  • If you are copying on the sheet insertions, these sheets are included in the count of the total number of copies made. If these sheets are left blank, however, the machine's counter does not count them as copies.
  • If you are adding chapter pages and tab paper, these sheets are included in the count of the total number of copies made.
  • If you want to set both Add Cover and Insert Sheets, select the same paper size.

  • Sheet Insertion/Chapter Page

This setting inserts a sheet of paper between copies. The Insert Sheets mode is useful when you want to use a blank sheet to tutorial sort out the copies. You may also copy on the sheet insertions. Since the chapter page is always copied on one side, the Chapter Page mode is useful when you want to organize the copies by chapter.

  • Tab Paper

This setting inserts sheets of tab paper into the prints. This feature is useful when you want to divide the main body of text.

  • To print on the tab paper, set the shift width of the image to be printed on the tabs.

Remark
  • Tab paper is always copied on. If you do not want to copy on the tab paper, insert blank sheets of paper in each place where you want the tab paper to go.
  • When copying on tab paper, check that the position of the tabs is correct.
  • If you are feeding tab paper from a paper drawer or the Multi-drawer Paper Deck-A1, you must register the paper type in the paper source as tab paper beforehand. (See "Registering the Paper Type for the Paper Source.")
  • For instructions on loading tab paper into the drawer, Multidrawer Paper Deck-A1, Document Insertion Unit-H1, Document Insertion Unit-J1, or Document Insertion / Folding Unit-G1, see "Maintenance."
  • If [Unfinished Tab Paper Forced Output] in [Function Settings] (Settings/Registration) is set to 'On', the extra amount of tab paper sheets that were not required for the job are forced out of the machine.
Example: If the number of tabs is set to 5 and the machine estimates that seven sheets of tab paper are needed for the copy job, you must prepare two sets of tab paper each containing five tabs (10 total). Therefore, if the machine only uses seven tab paper sheets, three tab paper sheets will remain.
  • Areas of images shifted outside the tab paper cannot be copied on the paper, and may cause the following copies to have black streaks or appear dirty.

  1. Place your originals → press [Options] → [Insert Sheets].
  1. Specify the features for the sheet to be inserted → press [Add].

You cannot select [Sheets] and [Chapter Pages] at the same time.

If you are feeding Sheets from the Document Insertion Unit-H1, Document Insertion Unit-J1, or Document Insertion/Folding Unit-G1, select the paper size after loading the paper into the Document Insertion Unit-H1, Document Insertion Unit-J1, or Document Insertion/Folding Unit-G1.

If you are loading tab paper into the document insertion unit, select [Tab] on the Select Paper screen → press [Number of Tabs]. Specify the number of tabs → press [OK].

  1. Enter the page number where you want to insert the paper using - (numeric keys).

  1. Specify the detailed insertion settings.

Press [Change] → select the paper source that contains the paper you want to insert.

If you selected [Sheets], set the number of sheets to insert, and the side to print on.

If you selected [Tab], set the print shift width (0" to 1") using [-] or [+] → press [OK].

  • If you select [Tab], only LTR paper can be used.
  • You cannot insert a sheet insertion or chapter page on the first page. Set their positions starting from the second page. However, you can insert tab paper in front of the first page.
  • If [Print on Both Sides] is selected for the front cover in [Add Cover] and tab paper is set to insert in front of the first page, the front cover is output first, and then the tab paper is output. The front cover outputs as a blank paper and prints are made starting from the tab paper.
  • If you select [Leave Blank] for the sheet insertion, you can set the same page for tab paper. In this case, the paper for the sheet insertion is output first, and then the tab paper is output.
  • You can insert up to 100 sheet insertions (or chapter pages) and tab paper.
  • If you are using paper that already has printing on it (e.g., company logo) as your sheet insertion, then you must select [Leave Blank]. Otherwise, the machine will print your original's first or last page on the preprinted paper.
  1. Press [OK].

Repeat steps 2 to 5, as necessary.

  • The settings are displayed in the order of insertion.
  • You can press [Details/Edit] to check and edit the pages to insert sheet insertions, chapter pages, or tab paper.
  • Make sure that the Number of Tabs shown on the Tab Paper Print Shift Width Settings screen is the same as the number of tabs on the tab paper loaded in the paper source.
