Adding a Cover

This mode enables you to set the machine to automatically add front and back covers using a different type of paper from that used for the main document. In addition, you can decide whether the front and back covers are copied on as well.

Remark
  • For information on the modes which cannot be set in combination with this mode, see "Combination of Functions Chart."
  • If you select the Staple mode when the Staple Finisher-A1/Booklet Finisher-A1 is attached, you cannot staple more than 50 sheets of 11" × 17", LGL, or LTRR paper, or 100 sheets of LTR or EXEC paper, including sheet insertions. However, if both the Staple Cartridge-H1 and Staple-H1 are attached, the sheets cannot be stapled when the total number of sheets and cover sheets exceeds 50, regardless of the paper size.
  • If you select the Staple mode when the Staple Finisher-B1/Booklet Finisher-B1is attached, you cannot staple more than 30 sheets of 11" × 17", LGL, or LTRR paper, or 50 sheets of LTR or EXEC paper, including sheet insertions.
  • When printing on special types of paper, such as heavy paper or transparencies, be sure to correctly set the paper type, especially if you are using heavy paper. If the type of paper is not set correctly, it could adversely affect the quality of the image. Moreover, the fixing unit may become dirty, or the paper could jam, and a service repair may be needed.
  • If you are copying on the front cover, back cover, these sheets are included in the count of the total number of copies made. If these sheets are left blank, however, the machine's counter does not count them as copies.
  • If you want to set both Add Cover and Insert Sheets, select the same paper size.
  • If you are feeding front cover and back cover from the Document Insertion Unit-H1, Document Insertion Unit-J1, or Document Insertion/Folding Unit-G1, you cannot copy on the front cover and back cover.

  1. Place your originals → press [Options] → [Add Cover].

If you are feeding cover paper from the Document Insertion Unit-H1, Document Insertion Unit-J1, or Document Insertion/Folding Unit-G1, select the paper size after loading the paper into the Document Insertion Unit-H1, Document Insertion Unit-J1, or Document Insertion/Folding Unit-G1.

  1. Press [Cover] and/or [Back Cover].

  • To cancel a selected feature, press that key again.
  1. Select whether to print on the front cover or back cover → press [Next].

Paper that is fed from the Document Insertion Unit-H1, Document Insertion Unit-J1 or Document Insertion / Folding Unit-G1 cannot be printed on.

  • If you are using paper that already has printing on it (e.g., company logo) as your front and/or back cover, then you must select [Leave Blank]. Otherwise, the machine will print your original's first or last page on the preprinted paper.
  1. Press [Change] → select the paper source → press [OK].

Select [Sheet Inserter] for the sheet insertion tray to feed cover page from the Document Insertion Unit-H1, Document Insertion Unit-J1, or Document Insertion / Folding Unit-G1. If you want to select the sheet inserter when a paper size/type is already set for the current or reserved job, you can press [Sheet Insert. Setting].

  • Select the same size paper for [Front Cover], [Back Cover], and [Sheets] (or [Chapter Pages]).
  • If you try to set a different paper size for one feature, the paper sizes for the other features are automatically changed to the new paper size. However, if you are only changing the paper source with the same paper size, the settings for the other features will not change.
  1. Press [OK].
